Topic: Bugmanagement for faster development

Hey community!

Currently you have to post all bugreports and patches into the forum. I think that slows down the development process by making it harder to determine what has to be done and to propose fixes/patches.
I think that Maratis needs a bugtracker additionally to the forum for easier and faster development.

I think either

http://www.bugzilla.org/

or

http://www.mantisbt.org/

should be ok.

What do you think about it?

Hey Sponk,

I think that bugtrackers are invaluable when a project is under heavy development or when there's a big gap between bug reports and their corrections.

However it would be great to be able to track the ongoing development (not bugs but improvements & new features) : who is working on what, progress status and projected date of public release.

Re: Bugmanagement for faster development

For bug and patches there is already something on google.code (where Maratis repository is hosted) :
https://code.google.com/p/maratis/issues/list

Re: Bugmanagement for faster development

one question is, should the bug report topic on the forum be closed to redirect all bugs/patchs on google code manager ?

Re: Bugmanagement for faster development

I think a centralized bug -> patch system would be very useful and preferable to the forum based alternative.

The forum approach could become better if there were a possibility to upload patches directly to the forum instead of using pastebin or another hosting service. You would not see who is working on what though.

Re: Bugmanagement for faster development

The Problem i see with using Google as the bug/progress tracker is that it only accepts entering Issues, and not feature requests or use cases. for this i think Github is much better suited.

Re: Bugmanagement for faster development

damvcoool > requests can be acceptable on the google thing if it's directly connected with code or development, for general requests and wishes it's better to keep it in the forum. There is an 'Enhancement' type in the issue panel so it's good.

Sponk > so maybe I'll close the forum thing and put a redirection on google code, as it supports uploading patches and a better bug management. Can you try to post your patch on it ? I'll see how I can make it clearer that bug and patches needs to be reported on google code with a link in the website and the forum.

Re: Bugmanagement for faster development

I updated the download page of Maratis website with a direct link to google code issue manager :
http://www.maratis3d.org/?page_id=57

I'll see what is possible with the forum, at least I'll add a post-it.
