Re: A Rig for Maratis(Free) (17 replies, posted in Gossip)
Ok I have resolved it I blender 2.68, by clicking left mouse button and moving cursor to center of mesh ( not very exact but im not sure how to do it automatically atm). However when I do origin to center of mass the entire terrain mesh disappears. It doesnt' do this on a new plane for example, but just on my mesh. Is there anyway to sort out what's causing this just on my mesh ?
Thx

Re: A Rig for Maratis(Free) (17 replies, posted in Gossip)
I may not have been as clear as I could have been, but yup I was trying Shift-S often, but nothing was working, yet ORIGIN got me closer than anything had, but while cursor itself was indeed at 000, the mesh ( terrain in this case) was definitely OFF center noticeably. No clue what's going on.
So the issue seems to be that the mesh itself somehow got confused and isn't communicating with its proper center as relates to my terrain mesh, and about that I've no idea why not. I thought I used to know how to fix it, but I can't recall given Ive not really used blender much over the last several months. One last thing, when I click origin > center of mass, the terrain mesh completely disappears altogether. Weird ?
Good luck trying to work on this issue, I'll be back tomorrow as its late here.

Re: A Rig for Maratis(Free) (17 replies, posted in Gossip)
OKay , thanks for reminder about the ORIGIN ))
Being under transform, Im not sure makes sense as to where one would typically find something like this , but its definitely better than it was, but still not centered over my terrain object. I"ve tried 'median' etc., but no value alters cursor position at all, its all the same, which is very odd. I tried center of mass as well, but the entire mesh disappeared from view and I could not find it zooming, so I went back to ORIGIN.
I guess this is the best I can hope for so ORIGIN it is )

Re: A Rig for Maratis(Free) (17 replies, posted in Gossip)
Is a very low poly model that has enough vertices to allow you to easily line up key features of the model to an image of your choice without the hassle of moving thousands of vertices.
-------------
I still dont' see how this is a lot easier than just doing it in Makehuman. Makehuman is made for such things isn't it ?
Can you do some video tutorial illustrating what you're saying so the rest of us understand ?
I"ve not gotten, 'yet', to creating characters, and I've not really seen Anyone on these forums do so either, because most of us are alone , not in big teams, so its SLOW progress going from idea , plots and then to models /animations, etc.
I therefore , and I'm 100% sure this applies to most everyone else too, am barely past the 'idea' phase.
I very much as I know anael and everyone else does, your hard work in creating what you call a base mesh, but Im not convinced yet that using it is in anyway a superior 'method' vs say using MakeHuman , which is designed precisely for this and does a lot more essentially and on top of that is crossplatform to the big 3 OS's.
Due to your work on this I hope someone can make use of it of course , but as noted Im unsure how this method can reduce my workload versus MakeHuman, but I'm certainly willing to check things out.
I'm happy to try both and let you know
Btw, IF you have enough Blender experience, I could use some tiny assistance.
I can't import my MESH into maratis, using Maratis exporter because all I get is a TINY DOT afterwards, and I have no idea why.
I am having trouble getting cursor centered over grid and object itself , and Ive tried everything but blender refuses to center it. THis is what really bothers me about b lender, is that this kind of thing just never happens to me anywhere else, yet in blender far too often, but atm all we have is blender for export because Ive tried exporting and importing in maratis editor with 'import 3d model' from a support format, but that doesn't always work so back to blender we must go. Not good, but atm at least only necessary for a brief moment for exporting. whew. Anyway the 'dot' in blender respresenting object ? I guess, refuses to line up OVER the object itself, and Ive tried S cript-c and Shift S and nothing has worked so far.
My object is on the left side, and the cursor on the right side and nothing is working to get them to JOIN in the center, and good luck trying to find out how given things change so quickly from release to release.
I just tested my mesh in sculptris > export OBJ, import OBJ in blender and my object is still shifted far to the left of cursor, and nothing I can think of to do fixes it. Maybe using blender was a huge mistake as it should not be this difficult to fix something like this SIGH. HOnestly Im not happy with EITHER community, blender or wings, so both are mostly off my radar anymore. Any object I try to open ( obj) does the same thing, as the cursor is in the very corner of object, instead of centered over it , as default cube does. Why me...
irc.freenode.net > #maratis, and I'm known as neighborlee there. Have to go downstairs for a bit, but I'll check back in hour or so and maybe you can lead me to a fix for this mess Im in with blender cursor issues. The hassle is almost not worth it I have BING'ed till blue in the face, and nadda.

Re: A Rig for Maratis(Free) (17 replies, posted in Gossip)
Sorry, but that just doesn't make any sense to me at all. I am a modeler also ( granted, Ive not been doing it for YEARS but Im getting quite comfortable with most things), but how does this ' base mesh' allow me to create my own character from it and how in precise detail as others would also need this information, does this base 'mesh' allow me to use it as a 'template' for quickly modeling my own mesh ? Do you mean simply as a 'reference' ? If so Im not sure how useful that is, given there are tons of character models on the internet to be used as such things. Until I get more detail from you, I think my assumptions are reasonable. Just mostly trying to verify this for other new modelers/programmers/animators that may come here and be wondering the same things.
Btw, I was aware this rig was the main purpose of this post, and that is why I replied here. Maybe we have a communication problem going on ? I can think of far worse things to occur, but still I need to verify.

Re: A Rig for Maratis(Free) (17 replies, posted in Gossip)
THank you for taking the time to add this to the maratis library for those uncomfortable with making their own characters, though to me anyway, and I have to offer this opinion to be honest, it looks a bit out of shape for a human, hips are way too wide and head is really weird. It's the thought that counts.
Also, the OBJ file you included, and thanks for that for non blender users, is very ROUGH compared to the .blend file, just letting you know
I would therefore like to offer what has bee noted in other forums:
" You can get the character you need quickly and easily. Change the height, weight, sex or facial features with a slide of a button. It’s all within your control. "
I"ve yet to use it, but with a feature set like that, who can argue not trying

Nice start though some odd design in shrubbery :)heh < but original )))
To me at least, and many opinions will widely vary, I would have stayed with the much more stable SPonza movement instead of this method, as I find it very uncomfortable and not exacting. Games should be fun not a bit of a task, and I would make sure to note Im not referring to having to go 1st vs 3rd , but just that using the 'camera' to move vs the character makes a lot more sense. It's what WoW uses, and its feels very sharp. I'ts fine to do what you've done, but I would leave it up to the player to decide with settings.
Please accept this with the intent it was delivered, to improve what you have

That's why I was really enthusiastic with Nistur's MScriptableBehavior plugin because we could have shared some game logic in a friendly way, giving ready-to-use bricks that can be easily tweaked, satisfying both beginners and seasoned programmers.
That's part of the reason I'm working on the customizable game script. Mainly to help me make things faster. One thing I need however is a particle system.

Plugins aren't difficult at all, you should do yourself a favor and do some reference work, given you've 'come this far', don't stop now

Allso please do not INSULT jesus like that. Its directly insulting to a chrisitian, myself included, to use jesus name like that. You should know better! I should not have to be TELLING you this, you just be old enough and wise enough to realize, you just never do that. If you are just YOUNG and weren't aware of it, then well,,now you do
If you were trying to put 'water' on the fire, then why did you WARN me as you did. I reacted the way I did, as honestly it felt like some physical attack was coming..how else should take 'warning', given no one in all the years I"ve been on IRC/forums has ever warned me about anything..given me advice,,redirection,, comments and opinions Always.,,but never ever has anyone 'warned' me not to 'do something'.
I still it was a very weird thing to do, and not to apologize is also a bit ODD,. but that's ok..just NEVER do it again, k ?
You have every right to be here, and we all look fwd to seeing your progess,,but don't go warning people. NOt polite, and it could easily be taken as a physical threat!
Having said that,,LETS start allllll over shall we

Re: Level Menu or Scene menu? (10 replies, posted in General)
First a word of warning heartseed, sarcasm online is not easily apparent at first you comment was offensive for me, then i realized you were being sarcastic be careful with that.
Second physics detection can be used with the rayHit() function to detect what the mouse is over with, that is how i have seen many others do on the Unity engine when using 3D menus or 2D menus based on 3D objects (and a 3D object can even be a 2D plane), afaik for now Maratis has no way to detect what the mouse is over without using the physics system.
BTW that was how i made the mouse over system on my video that you saw.
Ex cuse me, you are warning me about something I said, that was not meant at all offensively?
If you truly feel offended, just ask, instead of assuming Incorrectly.
You should never 'assume' anything, and then on TOP of that, hurl insults at me, WARNING me to not do something, that I never did. I took personal offense by that, almost as if being warned of some impending violence! I presume that wasn't your intent, but it came OUT that way. What was your, ahem, intent anyway, with that 'warning' ? Don't you ever do that again or I will moderate if need be. That had nasty understones of violence . I"ve never in all the time Ive been online, had anyone 'warn' me not to do something. I hope that wasn't your intent, would you mind rephrasing that or letting me know 'how' you meant it ?
I said nothing whatsoever, to warrant being 'warned' by you or anyone else here, and I find it very odd you are taking that arrogant tone with someone on these forums, who doesn't deserve it on any level. Who are you to warn me like that ? Having a bad day or something ? Do not take it out on me, or anyone else here, is that understood ?
That was quite rude, and I think you owe me an opology. I"ve never been ' warned' by anyone, nor has anyone ever needed to do that, because Im a decent person, who also happens to moderate parts of this forum, and thought I would innocently 'reply' to your thread as your game looked interesting as something unique being done with Maratis. I still can't believe you 'warned' me, as if you'd do something TO me or something...really?
I shall make it perfectly clear to you, given you clearly misunderstood, that nothing I said to you had any overtones of arrogance of hostility. If you took it that way, maybe it was a language barrier kind of thing ( such things happen VER Often anyway so...I bet that's all it was!) ? Misunderstandings 'happen', so lets just take it as that, and move on in peace and civility, and enjoy this wonderful engine

Re: My work so far on the Maratis engine (16 replies, posted in Showcase)
Thanks Crucio777 i will try to show more stuff when i feel they are worth showing.
heartseed I'm not trying to start anything if i see you or anyone else pass the line of courtesy i will end the conversation with that person right there.
Now i'm not sure if you comprehended my message, i'm not pro violence but i'm also not anti all violence that imo is a very skewed and unrealistic view of what we as humans and also part of nature are, for example you said you are a vegan, did you didn't realize that by eating plants you are being violent to that same plants? This takes us to what i also said, i said that violence is a very relative thing what i consider violence you could not consider and vice versa, for example you not seeing the super Mario jump on turtles and other fictional characters and also the Sonic way of killing the Doctor Eggman minions has violence.
Where was I not curtious I wonder ? I was nothing but completely objective in stating my opinions.
YOu on the other hand are crossing a line, by being ridiculous about 'eating plants' causing harm to them, when in absolute FACT, plants have zero nervous system, and zero brain, vs killing innocent animals who aren't asking for it, in horrible slaughter houses, as if humans have NO choice whatsoever of what to eat. This would DEvolve into a conversation into veganism vs eating meat, but that most certainly is NOT for t his forum, and I would never do that.
I offered 2 solid links , by a scientist, and you had a problem with that why exactly ?
I offered objective scientific proof about a issues that is quite important, without passing judgement on anyone, so Im not the one to go after here, it should be the scientist who wrote that article. If you disagree with his findings, attack him, NOT me
Ignore me if you want , though again, I did nothing wrong for that to be necessary, and for you to say so, is a bit odd. All I did was give my opinion on the matter, the current stats on some game companies ( blizzard, afterall they are HUGE, so it mattered a lot to mention them!) who are going less violent, and objective studies done by a credible scientist about this very issue. I think I went out of m yway to offer credible information on the issue, and let you , and others, decide.

Re: My work so far on the Maratis engine (16 replies, posted in Showcase)
Yes, the haunted h ouse thing , I realize that ( that people like to be scared, etc.).
But you must admit, that non violent games are on the rise, I've seen it, and I've seen people on other forums ASK for it, but if you haven't seen that, then I can see that you might think otherwise.
I am a vegan, so its SUPER EASY for me to want to avoid violence , and vegan/vegetarianism IS on the rise as well, and that will eventually lend itself to non-violence in games too, and as I noted, its PROOF of this already starting, given you already see blizzards removing at least some aspects of killing animals in starter zones.
Killing fictional 'monsters' as you say prob. doesn't do much harm per se ( although plenty of studies may prove otherwise , if one BING"s for information on that, and make sure one is being 'objective' in that search)
Many people see games like CXOD and Crysis3 as totally b rainDEAD games, as all they do is GLORIFY violence, and I might even go as far to say, that it makes the militiaries jOB so much easier if young people , etc., think its 'kewl' to kill. Super Mario has very little violence in it, and I have super Mario for wii and off hand I don't recall much violence there at all, so I think that's a HUGE stretch to say that LOL. LInks ?
If violence is the only way you can think of to 'attract' people, then Im not sure you are giving as much thought to design, as you are to 'coding'
I thought this was going to be a 'simple' objective thread, but you are turning it kind of ugly, and you can expect me to fire right back at you in defense of what I see as a changing paradigm, eventually, in publics thinking on violence. Violence is , as it does, and I see no redeeming value to it moving forward as a society.
Opinions on the issue are mixed, but it certainly doesn't hurt to be AWARE of our surroundings and subsequent things we do that can influence others:
http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/26/tech/gami index.html
From bottom of article:
" To be sure, "Bulletstorm" revels in a stream of nonstop profanity and rewards grisly "skill kills" that include impaling opponents on a cactus and chopping them in half. But the worst game in the world?
"I think of it as a teenage shooter game that tries to get attention by being gross, obscene and sexually charged," CNN.com video-game contributor Larry Frum wrote when it was released. "It is funny at first, but after a while, it becomes tired."
"
SOme of those things really make my blood boil ( makes me sick too!), and make me wonder, really?, what is the point in doing such things if not to make profit off of VIOLENCE ? Is that responsible I wonder ? HM.....
Makes me think as a society, all we care about sometimes is egging on the WORST parts of who we are instead of making strides in improving ourselves.
Make the game you want obviously, that's entirely up to you, but all I did was put forth a opinion based on what I see as 'responsibility' , and some of the comments from that article would suggest we do just that
FOr more objectivity from a scientist, I offer th is:
http://ithp.org/articles/violentvideogames.html
Objectivity matters. IM all about it. Fair is fair

Re: My work so far on the Maratis engine (16 replies, posted in Showcase)
Yes of course indeed SHows how busy Ive been lately, little time for maratis editor..as I really did KNOW that ;)heh
I'm going for ALL non violent game content, and Im seeing now, today, where a lot of people on other forums are HAPPY about it, as they are tired of old fashioned violent games. You do as you wish I totally understand, but just be aware that the tide seems to be shifting and you might do well to follow it. Violent games have just been a 'easy' way to draw people in, but people seem to be a bit tired of it now and want more 'engaging' thoughtful gameplay. You can BING, and see for yourself
NO offense, it's just what I seem to be seeing, and in no way has ANY expectation for how anyone makes their games. IMHO its just a sign of the times, and though other game companies aren't quite 'there yet', its clear that SOME at least are, as seen in the Pandaria expansion by WoW ( blizzard mmo) where they no longer force players to start out killing animals ( start zones). I stopped playing just because of that, so its a nice shift in design for me at least
About time

Im glad to see its a adventure style game, I MUCH prefer these over silly and violent FPS's
