I have been using insanebump, but mine doesn't look like that. Have they updated it in he past few months?

Also, there is a standalone version of insanebump that does presents the maps in realtime.

There is two versions, nether update in real-time, 1. Python Script Based http://registry.gimp.org/files/InsaneBump.py_3.txt
and 2. C Program Based https://code.google.com/p/gimp-plugin-insanebump/

The one above is the C based one.

What is that map in the upper right-hand corner? (The green and red one?) I don't usually do texturing and i'm trying to learn. Also, i can't find the Insanebump download page. Do i have to compile the source myself or is there an .exe i'm not seeing?

I think that map is a different type of normal map or a normal/spec combo. Not sure but its not typical ever used. We normaly use what you see in the first screenshot, Note: Insanebump produces more map types than what is shown.

You can see the windows version here.

Thanks zester, did it run ?

Yes it ran and worked just fine. I didn't test running any scripts just played with the editor(Models, Lights, ...). This machine is new to me and only has 1GB of RAM, I need to upgrade to 6GB RAM and do a triple boot Mac, Linux, Windows. Hoping it will be able to function as a build bot for all platforms.

If you use gimp and are looking for a free alternative to Crazybump you can use Insanebump found here https://code.google.com/p/gimp-plugin-insanebump/

Here are the Insanebump results.

Insanebump works on Linux and Windows, I have only tested it on Linux. For those who only have a Mac computer the Crazybump Beta is Free.

Wow you have really progressed TD great work.

There is alot more involved in making a class library with lua, I personally just use
Middleclass

local class = require 'middleclass'

local Fruit = class('Fruit') -- 'Fruit' is the class' name

function Fruit:initialize(sweetness)
  self.sweetness = sweetness
end

Fruit.static.sweetness_threshold = 5 -- class variable (also admits methods)

function Fruit:isSweet()
  return self.sweetness > Fruit.sweetness_threshold
end

local Lemon = class('Lemon', Fruit) -- subclassing

function Lemon:initialize()
  Fruit.initialize(self, 1) -- invoking the superclass' initializer
end

local lemon = Lemon:new()

print(lemon:isSweet()) -- false

Informatics as you can see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Informatics
covers an extremely broad spectrum of academic fields.

But by definition "proxy" even in "Computer Science" has multiple uses, in networking alone proxy is used in several different ways.

proxy noun \ˈpräk-sē\
: a person who is given the power or authority to do something (such as to vote) for someone else

: power or authority that is given to allow a person to act for someone else
plural prox·ies

Full Definition of PROXY

1:  the agency, function, or office of a deputy who acts as a substitute for another

2: a :  authority or power to act for another
    b :  a document giving such authority; specifically :  a power of attorney authorizing a specified
          person to vote corporate stock.

3:      a person authorized to act for another

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/proxy
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/proxy

I think "proxy" used in place of "cloned object" is incorrect, I don't think "clone" is even entirely correct. A clone is normally a copy of another entity that can exist on its own, but in maratis or any other game engine, the object isn't actually a clone  its more of an "duplicated virtual instance" of an existing object.

But regardless it doesn't matter we all know what TD meant.

Once again I had to find some encouragement for my Blender woes. And i came across this article by (once again) Andrew Price.

For anyone having a hard time with Blender (like I am) this is a good article. After reading this, I am going to work on my first project with Maratis. I am not going to depend on any tutorials (my name is out the window for this one).

I am going to try to make Maratis look like the Cry Engine (hahaha. Maybe).

Anyhow, here is the article:

Why not make a list of things your having trouble with, so we can help you solve those issues.

You can use the term "proxy", nothing wrong with that.

It may has sense in english language (I don't know), but in informatics "proxy" is only the net intermediate server.
In programming it's more correct to use the words "object","instance", "clone", "copy". Where "object" is the actual data in memory and the other words are the clones objects which just "points" to the original data and so use less memory.

("Proxy" is only the net intermediate server) This is incorrect, a "proxy" is a "relay".

Example:

1. You relay information threw an "Internet Proxy Server" to its destination.
2. In the USA you speak to a judge via your lawyer, the lawyer is the "Relay" or "Proxy"
3. A Relay switch is also called a "Proxy"
4. A Military Force is a "Proxy"
5. Some say the USA and Russian involvement in the Syrian conflict is a "Proxy" war between the USA and Russia

In terms to  what we are referring to in this topic,   in the "English" language "Instance Clone" or "Cloned Instance" might be a more appropriate term to use.

Yah the "Angry Walk" looks funny to me also now that I look at it.

The "Happy Walk" reminds me of one of Cinderellas step sisters (Drizella Tremaine) when she is getting ready for the ball and does the marches angerly down the hall to complain to her mother that she has nothing to wear..

yeah an fbx import  with animation will work quite well .

Actually it wouldn't, the "blackberry gameplay game engine" uses fbx as the input format for there exporter, its been a pure nightmare for anyone other than Autodesk users. The FBX format is nice and has lots of features but, its poorly documented and supported.

There is no official fbx binary support in blender do to license incompatibility's, which leads to the question why hasn't anyone just used the offical autodesk python fbx sdk? <--- No documentation or support. And its massively complicated to use, as discovered by those in the Autodesk community who have tried to use it to write plugins for Maya, ...

Lots of 3d applications support fbx but only a very very small fraction fully support fbx.

The problems you are having everyone has in game development, if fbx was an open industrial standard then things would be different but I doubt thats ever going to happen.

All the motor would need is a few animations saved to it. You could rig it and then just animate the rig for different states of the motor. I just did a level where I had a door that was had a rotate animation applied to it. I then used:

setCurrentFrame()
changeAnimation()
changeAnimationSpeed()

along with booleans to simulate different states of the door (opened or closed).

As for the shock and suspensions, that would need to be programmed I'm sure. I haven't rigged the automobile in that car game I posted, because it is not my content. I just wanted to get the basic car movement down. It doesn't have rear wheel drive (doesn't even have wheel drive haha).

I like how you made it so that you can mod it. That is the perfect way to do it.

Cool, I will clean them up (There are a bunch of images and brush textures, in the uv image editor) combo box  and I am sure a few other thing. And I will upload them you can then use,mod,paint???  whatever you like.

Zester, guy, those are GREAT! They look like that model I used in that car level I posted. Have you checked that one out? You can easily substitute these in for that model

Thanks and I am not sure if I have seen it or not.

Tutorial Doctor wrote:

One thing I would suggest is that you make the wheels separate from the chassis (that is an issue i have with my level right now).

The Frame, Skin(Shell), Wheels, Seat, Steering Wheel, Motor, and Rear End are all separated.  The Front and Back Wheels will Rotate and in Addition the Front Wheels do turn. The motor can be programmed to vibrate to simulate it running. I have to play with the steering wheel to get right.

I plan on also making the shocks and suspension functional.

Tutorial Doctor wrote:

Another question, are these just primitives moved into position or are they one piece? If they aren't you just gave me an idea. You can make them on piece using the MeshMixer software (now I see a use for it!).

There a little of both. I did it like this so I could mod them and make new styles. Hence all three use the same base frame.

It could be that I haven't somehow actually rendered the video to a texture or something (Blender is starting to really annoy me) and I can't find the right help online.

Had anyone done this with Maratis yet? Or know how? It just shows up as BLACK.

Maratis doesn't support rendering videos to textures, only texture animation like a flipbook.

Does it support image sequences? Like in your example of the smoke? How would you get that smoke into maratis since maratis only supports bone/rig animation and not particle animations?

I was going to use UV Texture Animation.
http://forum.maratis3d.com/viewtopic.php?id=301

I rendered my smoke out as png's and took every other png and put them in a new transparent image. I added the back background so you could see the smoke on the forums. Make your a transparent image like a 2d cutout.

There is a couple of ways to do this and also a plugin called AnimALL. I tried a couple of times and wasn't able to get maratis to animate my uv's not sure what I was doing wrong. But look in the forum/wiki there should be a couple of tutorials.

The torch in ...
