I'm not that far, yet. i'm still trying to navigate around in blender without wanting to throw my computer out the window.

have no problem doing this in paint.net. I'll show some paint.net stuff this weekend. smile ( including the automatic normal map generator)

yeah....gonna need help with the blender import/export stuff, i know i can go to a blender tute site, but I need it in normal english, not linuxspeak. tongue things i know i'm gonna need help with....texture import in blender , importing a model in maratis , how would bones/rigging from a different modeler work in blender?

Cool stuff. I'm working with Wings 3d for my terrains meshes, that way I can control what parts I want to be detailed a bit better. Also, when I'm exporting from my csg modeler, I'm importing it into wings3d and creating a single texture . haven't done anything with maratis from this process yet, But that's coming this weekend.

Apple devices are strange.....but I guess this is the way things are going.  I know on my Unity projects. I don't even attempt going apple or ios, I have better kluck doing stuff for windows, ;linux and android.....

The problem is...it's going to take me ( and the average user ) months to just learn blender , and then months to learn maratis, well enough to do anything with it.The other two that compete with this are Dxstudio and Shiva.  DX = outdated hunk of junk, and you can't make commercial stuff with Shiva. I'd like to use this. My old game engine was abandoned by its creator.....

I'd rather just learn Maratis than having to toss another layer of difficulty on top of it. smile

I've created a small house using a csg program called RealityFactoryPro , exported as a .3ds , and am trying to import it and get everything correct in blender, so I can see what it looks like in maratis. I've imported it into blender, but I can't get textures to show up. Will I have to combine the textures into one ( i can do this using wings3d  easily ) ?

link to file below , used 7zip to zip it up.

Any help would be appreciated.....

redwall/nimh!!!!awesome!

It's not a matter of disliking blender, it ( for me) is pointing out other choices. smile Also---blender is not easy, especially not for beginners.

Blender tries to hard to be an everything tool......yet ain't really good at anything. Animating in blender is a p.i.t.a., the sculpting is goofy, and the save system is not intuitive at all. I know, Yo Frankie was made with it. I can show you thousands of mods made with Milkshape. Milkshape, Fragmotion, Pacemaker---all are intended for one purpose only---to create models for games. Blender was an internal artist tool, that was released for the linux guys many years ago.

It hasn't changed much....still an art tool, not a modeling program for games

The survival horror genre can be explored , possibly, more than the others cause you can do a lot with it. Love the looks of that one.

Yes, it would. I've always said if Milkshape was free, it'd blow blender out of the water. Gonna see just how tough that'd be to do..... Milkshape exporter for Maratis.

Milkshape is my preferred tool, as i purchased it a few years ago....it imports / exports to dang near everything , and was made specifically to model/animate for games. No fancy bs with it( no lightmapping, for instance, or stuff such as vertex weights ( it has it, doesn't work all that great yet)), just straight-forward modeling and correct bone placement for animations.

It can export to collada , and fbx , .3ds, .obj ( with animations)( and about 30 other formats.....) .

Not being a great blender user , I'm hoping to use one of the above formats to export animated models to blender , so i can experiment with Maratis.I have exported/imported animated stuff from it to blender---works like it was made to do that sort of thing specifically. Bones are where they're suppossed to be, no" weird" vertexes, no faces out of place, animations work fine( exporting to .3ds --no animations, good for buildings/props, though, but you'll have to rotate the model 90 degrees ).

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with it for Maratis? Or if i get back into programming, would anyone be interested in a maratis milkshape exporter?

If you want more people to use it, my idea is to take it as far away from blender as you can. You guys are going for ease of use, right?Scrap the antiquated save/load system. Only real problem I see with this product right now.

Hi guys....I'm Wraps , I am looking to create my own 3d rpg, for myself, by myself. Not looking to make any money off it, this is just for myself. And I have a  question...I'm coming from a purely Windows background---no linux experience at all---I am having a serious problem with importing anything into Maratis....( same problem with Blender----i don't understand the save / load system .)

I see no tutorials on how to get anything into the engine.Could someone point me to one?
